Bad Day in Fataga 2.0

These disaster is ment to be an ongoing conversation till who knows when... I have not read official sites about this, but the theory is ment to state that the big rock broke the rope and therefore, the climber fell to the ground...Others say it didn't brake... Here are some photos taken by me the next day of the fatal accident. The belayer had just a broken foot, the right one.

This route has been climbing for years, more than 6. I have only climb it twice, and my last ascent was years ago. Damn climbers that have been climbing it in this year did not said things out loud, that the route was falling apart...now, after this, they start saying it, but now there is no sense for it. It should have been before!! No words to describe this situation.
I don't know why some climbers, mostly rookie climbers, state that routes should of have been revised, or even say that the ones that are responsible for it, should revise them.... Come ON! Keep throwing shit  on them!! Don't Worry!! ¬¬ Disgusting... They are just ignorants! They don't know how climbing goes, I guess they think the routes are legalized or something...  You guys wanna know what I say to all of those type of critics? those ones who wanna throw shit on Bolters?? Here it goes: Hey Rookies!, stop criticising or criminalizing people and start doing things right for your climbing comunity! If you think there are wrong things or wrong routes.... SAY IT!!! God Damn Shit!! ... Just as I do so with this blog and my spanish one ...

Move!!

Bad Day in Fataga

Yesterday I climbed in Ayagaures with some friends, some I didn't even know they were going to be there. Congrats everybody for their sends, but late in the day, we knew someone had died climbing. That night, the entire climbing comunity of our seven islands and most of the climbing comunity from Madrid  and I could say that some of the rest of the Country, came in Shock. Many Island Facebookers  where talking about it and giving their condolences.

- The real ARTICLE

- Here is an article written from that day. ARTICLE. Note that there were 3 photos at the first place, now, there is one. hmm...

- Here is another article that says a false statement, because the only thing that fell, was the rock, and the only one who fell, was the man. No Bolts where removed during the fall.  BAD Article.

The Next day I went there at 2:00pm and things had changed from the evening to the night. I saw two "climbers" that weren't climbing as I passed through them. One became familiar to my eyes, but didn't knew who was. Their hats, the only ones in Fataga with them, where very new for me. Just said hello to them and went to another sector, one answered. Don't know why, but I noticed somewhat confusing sensation passing through, maybe it was just the sensation of the tragedy. Also, before going from the crime scene, around 4 persons came down to the same place, but looking from down there, they did not seemed to be climbers too, but one or two should have been because the quickdraws have been taken from the rock when I came back in the night (today night).

I'll write a second part.

Ayagaures, Onsight Point

During these last days I've been visiting Ayagaures with the purpose of sending onsight. Is lucky to have such a good rock like this one where things are just where they are and you don't have to think much about what to choose to grab. Braveness is just what is needed to go for them, never the less, you need to do things right too, that is the other part of the game.
In my first visit of the week, I went there with my friend Lolo, and the day went cool. Both of us made the proyect of the day, Kus Kus 7a+, we redpointed it, and for me it was on the 'second go'. Nice route by the way. Then we folded other proyects in mind and started pointing out onsight ones. We prefered to eliminated more routes on this sector. A 6c OnSight for the two, two 7a's OnSight for Lolo( Petisuis, and Yoghourt quickdrawing), and Petisuis 7a OnSight for me quickdrawing.

The OnSight attemps haven't finished yet, and this weekend, on Sunday, some friends and I went camping and before the day finished, we stopped in this incredible Crag to climb a bit. Nobody was there climbing except us, and we were almost 10 people and all of us climbed a route. We moved on to the upper sector of the crag where we climbed some 6a/6a+ routes, but there were also hard routes to do. Siriaco sent El Salto del Ángel 7a at the first try( onsight or flash, he should know). I just repeated it after him and moved on to the next one. Siriaco attempted Kus Kus 7a+, but the onsight didn't appear. He should of have tried a flash, as i suggested him, but he did not wanted to. What I did was just to repeat it, as I have already redpointed it some days ago.

Ayagaures is a Crag that is located in the southern part of Gran Canaria and is really INCREDIBLE. It is 'basalto' black smooth rock, with routes of about 25 meters high, but you can find 15 meter routes in the upper sectors. Levels start from 6a and move on up to 8a+, where you con also find some proyects. There is still work to do there : ).  Not many climbers go there, I suppose because there are also some other crags that are more attractive in their own way. Maybe some because they are closer and others because they are prettier, but this crag isn't that close, but isn't that bad at all. What this one really has, are routes that you won't find in any other place. Ayagaures must be visited.

WELCOME CLIMBERS!!

Hi everybody!, welcome to a new blog site where you will know what rock climbing is all about in the island of Gran Canaria, one of the main seven islands of the Canary Islands. Or at least that's the priority island I'm gonna talk about most of the time. I wish everyone will have a good time reading as taking part on surveys that'll be around here. If you wish any comments, just make them! Take care out there wherever you are, and....

       TIGHT'EM UP!
